HALO created the content for this mapping. The running time of the show is 9 minutes.
The theme sets the language: Constructivism, with its geometry, rhythm and austere graphics, fits well onto an architectural projection. The content was built for the facade of pavilion No. 58 – for its shape and planes, so that the mapping matched the building and worked as its extension rather than an image laid over the top. It is precisely the exact fit to the architecture that distinguishes mapping from ordinary video on a wall.
Pavilion No. 58 is itself a monument of its era, and a mapping on the theme of Constructivism here enters into a dialogue with the architecture of VDNKh: the language of the 1920s avant-garde returns to a historical building as a digital projection. The austere graphics of the avant-garde forgive less imprecision than smooth animation: the lines and forms have to sit exactly on the architecture, otherwise the geometry diverges from the facade. The theme of the show and the place of its display reinforce each other.
