“Other Worlds” exhibition

“Other Worlds” is a multimedia exhibition at the State Museum of Contemporary History of Russia.

The display was conceived as a continuous visual space without a hard beginning or end, and HALO developed the video content for it.

The basis of the project is a seamless 360° panorama assembled from elements of paintings. To make separate fragments of the canvases come together into a single closed projection without seams, the studio applied neural network technologies: they helped to complete and connect the image so that the transitions between elements would not be noticeable. For 2019 this is an early and substantive move into neural networks as a working tool rather than an ornament.

The seamless projection works not as digital decor but as an independent narrator: it changes the perception of the hall and leads the viewer around in a circle, without the usual point of entry and exit. The space has no frontal stage to look at – the image surrounds the person on all sides.

What sets this case apart is the link between concept and method: the idea of a continuous, borderless space required a technology capable of stitching the image seamlessly, and neural networks became exactly that tool here.
